Disappointment for Canada as Russia takes gold at World Hockey Championship


Quebec City, May 19 (Itar-Tass) - Russia won a gold medal at the World Ice Hockey Championship here on Sunday.
Russia beat Canada 5-4 in overtime in the final match.
The final match “began with some difficulties” for the Russian team, as Canada took a 4-2 lead in the third period, but the Russians “managed to pull themselves together and began playing with discipline,” and finally won 5-4 in the overtime, Russian head coach Vyacheslav Bykov told a press conference after the final match.
Ilya Kovalchuk scored the overtime winner today as Russia defeated Canada 5-4 to win gold at the IIHF World Hockey Championship.
“We are very proud of this victory, we were looking forward to this victory for a long time,” Bykov said, adding, “The Canadian team deserves respect.”
